"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" — Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
Psalm 46 was Luther's psalm — the one behind "A Mighty Fortress." Its world is collapsing: mountains sliding into the sea, nations raging, kingdoms tottering. And into that noise God speaks the week's most counterintuitive command: be still. Not because the danger isn't real, but because the outcome isn't in question. "The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." Stillness is not weakness, and it isn't denial. It is what happens to people who know Who holds the field. You do not have to manufacture peace today by controlling everything — you couldn't anyway. Be still, and know: He is God, He is with us, and He will be exalted in the earth. The fortress stands. Stand in it.
