"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." — Romans 10:9–10
Paul puts salvation within reach of a mouth and a heart. No pilgrimage, no payment, no probation period: confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved. Notice the order of grace in verse 10: the heart believes and is justified — God does the justifying — and then the mouth confesses and is saved, because a faith that has truly taken root in the heart always finds its way to the lips. If you have never said it out loud, today is a good day: Jesus is Lord. It is not a spell that earns heaven; it is the sound of a heart that heaven has already reached. And if you confessed Him years ago, confess Him again today — to a coworker, a child, a friend. The mouth was made for this confession.
