"The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22–23

These words were not written from a mountaintop. Jeremiah wrote them sitting in the rubble of his city, in the book named for tears. That is exactly why they can be trusted. Steadfast love that never ceases is easy to sing about in springtime; Jeremiah sang it in the ashes — and found it true. God's mercies are not a dwindling account you are spending down. They are new every morning, minted fresh while you slept, in exactly the amount today requires. Yesterday's failures did not exhaust them; today's troubles will not outrun them. Whatever yesterday held, this morning's first fact is not your record — it is His faithfulness. Great is Thy faithfulness is not a slogan. It is a survivor's testimony.
